(Time to read: 1 minute)
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been focused pretty intensely on designing and implementing this new website, choosing not to keep up with email and accounting as completely as I usually prefer. And I’m celebrating that the site is at a done-for-now place.
In the past, my attention would immediately have shifted to the next project waiting patiently in the file bin beside my desk, leaving the administrative tasks to build into a tidal wave of crisis proportions.
But this time, I’m really appreciating that I’m choosing to mentally dub this week as a “catch-up week” – with the goal of bringing my email and accounting up-to-date. It feels like a significant milestone in my intention to “Get Real About Time”.
And in the process I’m rediscovering something. Even tasks that aren’t my favourite can be much more fun when I allow lots of time for them!
I feel frustrated, anxious and overwhelmed when I intend to get 4 days worth of email handled in an hour – and I tend to resent every email in the lot.
But when I tell myself that I have a whole week to catch up on email and bring my accounts up to date, that seems really spacious.
I feel relaxed and at ease. I can give myself fully to each task. I can sink into it and really enjoy it. The image of lying back in a warm bathtub comes to mind.
What could you be enjoying more fully if you gave yourself more time to do it?
